Hankerin' For Brunch

 Nomnom, who doesn't like brunch? For someone who's not a morning person like me, brunch is an excellent way to start the day since it's usually a little too late for breakfast by the time I get up and I'm usually a little too hungry to wait for lunch.

A new favorite for weekend brunch is Luna's Diner. 
There are two branches, the original one in Christianshavn and the one nearest to me in Vesterbro, which is located right behind Det Ny Teater.

The husband and I took his parents out to chow down at Luna's, where it took around 15 minutes to decide what to get from the wide assortment of dishes from the menu.

If you come in on a weekend, like we did, there are a few big weekend brunch plates to choose from.

My choice, the Popeye brunch, included spicy sausages, jalapeño poppers, samosa and a Belgian waffle, was a great choice for someone who had started the weekend with Happy Hour the evening before.

Another option was the Sunrise brunch, which included tons of fruit, yoghurt, salmon and portobello mushroom with goat cheese. 

If brunch isn't what you're looking for, they also offer other breakfast options like a breakfast burger.....

... or Mexican Eggs Benedict.

Cozy place, good food, great location. 

Here's to discovering new cafes to brunch at in the future.

Street Market On Copenhagen's Little Bit Of Paris

One of my favorite streets in Copenhagen, Værnedamsvej, has welcomed springtime with a street market on this beautiful, sunny Saturday.

Værnedamsvej is a small street that connects Gammel Kongevej and Vesterbrogade on Frederiksberg. It's been known as the street that is a little bit of Paris in Copenhagen, because a number of French restaurants and shops as well as the French private school, Lycée Francais, are located on this street. It's a great area to explore if you want your morning muffin and coffee, new threads or a gastronomic fix, as lots of local Frederiksberg and Vesterbro residents do.

Crowded with happy people with strollers, dogs and bikes, there was a great feel to the street market, helped along with funky music that set the beat for everyone.

 

 

 Local shops had some great offers and displays for the day.

Check out the local optometrist's funky window display.

Some people had also arranged their own little flea markets with used clothes, dvds, porcelain and a lot more.

And then there were the more special things on sale. Like these vintage lamps...

...and these spotlights, which looked like they came straight from the rafters of a theatre.

 The restaurants and cafes of Værnedamsvej had their bit of the street market, too. 

People were also enjoying a little something for their taste buds in the sun at popular spots, like Les Trois Cochons...

... the wine bar, Falernum....

...and one of my favorite cafes from when I lived up on Gammel Kongevej, Caffe Viggo.

The guys of Cafe Viggo added to the street party feel as well by manning a hot dog stand. Nomnom!

The lucky ones, like these guys, had great vantage points from which they could follow everything going on up and down the street.

But whether or not there's a street market or party going on, I'd recommend a trip to Værnedamsvej if you like small, cozy shops, good food and wine.

Sunny Sunday in Copenhagen

Sun's out and the temperature's rising in Copenhagen. Copenhageners come crawling out of hibernation on sunny weekends like these after months of cold, dark days. Everything seems just that much better with the promise of spring right around the corner.

So, what's a great way to spend one of the first sunny Sundays in months?

Sunday brunch is definitely at the top of the list. Here, at Huks Fluks on Gråbrødre Torv. Eggs, chorizo, bacon, salmon, cheese, salad, a muffin, Skyr (Icelandic yogurt), marmalade and a smoothie---deelish!

 A walk down to picturesque Nyhavn where the harbor is crawling with people enjoying a beer or coffee in a spot of sunshine is a good way to work off a full belly.

Past Nyhavn, hanging out by the docks by Skuespilhuset (The Playhouse, which is part of the Royal Theatre) is also a favorite past time.

Here, you can enjoy a cappuccino from Skuespilhuset's cafe.

And having a view of the Opera House while sipping your cappucino and sitting at the edge of the docks isn't too bad, either.

On the way back, it's always entertaining to stumble on a street musician or two.

And, if you feel peckish, you can always grab a hotdog from a stand on Kongens Nytorv....

...while you enjoy another street musician's tunes....

...or enjoy one of the artistic decorations covering the fenced-in construction going on in the square.

And that's just one way a Copenhagener--or a visitor to Copenhagen-- can spend a sunny Sunday in March!
